GD Athletics is hosting an information session on Concussions at the GD Middle School Performing Arts Center on September 7, 2010 at 7PM. There is a link to the flyer below and a short summary on the speaker.
Here is a short summary of the Keynote Speaker:
Chris Nowinski is the co-founder of The Sports Legacy Institute, a non-profit organization concentrating on research and education in the field of head injuries and concussions. He is the author of the book Head Games: Football’s Concussion Crisis. He has been instrumental in the creation of the Center for the Study of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, (a partnership between The Sports Legacy Institute and Boston University School of Medicine) which is conducting cutting edge research into the degenerative brain disease CTE. He is an internationally known speaker on concussions with audiences including doctors, coaches, parents and athletes. Mr. Nowinski’s personal story of his own battle with the effects of concussions will inform and inspire all in attendance.
